Hopes and Dreams

Eventually I want to create separate pages within this blog for various topics like history, current events, and just general niftiness but I'm currently not sure how to do that. For now, I'll just post everything in the general discussion section. That being said...

Hopes and Dreams
I just wanted to share with you all a few nifty places on the web that may be of interest.

*43things- I am totally addicted to this site!!! The purpose of 43things is to make a list of 43 (or less) things that you want to accomplish. It can range from cleaning your room to becoming famous to creating your own secret language. I have found that it has really helped me to prioritize my goals and to work to complete the things that I want to do. It's really awesome; check it out!

*NaNoWriMo- Have you ever had the dream to be a writer? I always thought that it would be cool. Well, November is national novel writing month and this particular site (see link) challenges people of all ages from around the world to write a novel in a month. I think I'm going to attempt it this year. Want to join me? It's supposed to be a lot of fun and all about actually writing something, not necessarily writing something that will be part of Oprah's book club!

Myths and the like

Already this year you guys have brought up a lot of things that you have heard about and have wanted to either know if it is true or have stated as if it was a fact. I think that since there is so much information comming at us from all over the place that sometimes we can confuse fiction as fact.

A really cool place to check out some urban legends is: http://www.snopes.com/. This site has info on current rumors such as "Ben Savage death hoax", September 11th info, or that John Hanson was the first president of the US. It's a pretty neat site--check it out and report back on any urban legends that you think are especially interesting (I like the cyclops kitten, myself!).

A Survey Just for You!

Use this link to fill in a survey about a possible project that we may do in class this year.

Remember- I take your submissions seriously, please take my questions seriously---answer honestly!

This School Year's Theme

Every school year I think about what I can do to make my class the best I can for you students. This year I have decided to go above and beyond my norm and add some stuff that is outside the normal range of social studies. This year we will be working to make ourselves more disciplined students and maybe even better people!

We will be attacking the following issues/problems/concerns:
*Procrastination (yes, I know I need to attack this as well!)
*Respect- of ourselves, our friends, our school, and our academics
*Plans for the future

I hope you all like this blog and that we have awesome conversations here! I can't wait to start the year with all of you!
